Original GoFundMe Updates 2019

We are sharing these old stories on our new website because without them, we would not be here. We are not grateful for what happened, but we celebrate that our family took the road less travelled. That Maeve’s spirit said, “not today, Death”, and that we have this chance to live how we want to live. Our Truth. This is TrueField.

8 July 2019 Update

Thank you to everyone for your patience and for respecting our privacy. We know you all care deeply about Maeve and all wish to know how she is doing. Today we have some excellent news! After 130 days as an inpatient, Mighty Maeve has been discharged from the hospital and it is SO GOOD to be home. We wanted to emphasize this accomplishment, so we departed the hospital through the doors we arrived at- the ambulance entrance. We are the proudest parents in the world.
We won’t be saying ‘goodbye’ to the hospital by any stretch; Maeve still has follow-up appointments (right now, still twice per week at least) with multiple specialties and there will be more surgeries as she continues to grow, both at the hospital and community medical professionals. Maeve will begin her amputee rehab in the fall with an incredibly dedicated and comprehensive team of therapists and physicians. For now, Maeve gets to enjoy her newly updated ‘big girl’ bedroom, snuggling with her doggies and falling asleep outside by the campfire; her favourite therapies.
What a journey this has been; more like a marathon, really- and you’ve all been there for us every step of the way. We are eternally grateful for the support, messages, prayers and fundraising that has taken place. Every single donation has and will continue to be employed to improve the quality of Maeve’s life and help secure her future. Thank you for giving Maeve these opportunities.
When we moved to Haldimand 5 years ago, it was with the purpose of providing Maeve with a safe childhood out in the country. While we couldn’t have predicted or prevented what happened to her, the response of the community has reinforced loud and clear that we made the right choice in settling down where we did. It takes a village to raise a child and we are so grateful to be able to bring her home where she belongs.
Thank you and we will continue to post updates via this page as Maeve moves through her recovery and rehabilitation. Enjoy your summer!

April 9, 2019 Update

We are ready to share an update on Maeve’s progress and we thank you for respecting our privacy during this extremely difficult time. We also know that Maeve has touched so many hearts and that everyone is eager to hear how things are going.

We celebrated Maeve’s 5th Birthday on April 1st, and we have God and everyone that has worked with her along the way to thank for that gift.

Maeve continues to astound and inspire. Working with Maeve’s world-class medical team, we are taking good steps on our journey towards recovery. With traumatic and critical situations like Maeve’s, the mantra is and must remain, “one day at a time”. We have celebrated many ‘wins’ along the way and also have endured the consequences of such a traumatic event.

Maeve’s body was badly hurt. Her left arm and right leg suffered irreparable damage from the accident, and so that the rest of her body can heal, both limbs needed to be shortened. The medical team collaborated intensely and worked tirelessly to exhaust resources before making those decisions, so we know that this was the right path towards healing and ultimately, saving Maeve’s life. Supportive people have reached out from the War Amps and we are grateful for that ray of hope for the future.

Maeve’s left eye was also hurt beyond repair, so she uses her strong, right eye to see. Maeve also endured multiple head and facial injuries for which surgeries are being carefully planned out by an amazing team of specialists. We are in the best of hands, focused on each step along our journey to healing.

In recent days, Maeve has been more alert and awake. She is an active participant in her physiotherapy; getting stronger every day. Everyone is so very proud of her effort and grit. The best part is that even though she cannot use her voice right now, she is an amazing communicator and is even playing jokes and making us laugh.

This update is a snapshot in time, and there is still a long road ahead. So, once again, we reiterate our ‘one day at a time’ mantra. We have shared the above details in order to clarify the correct information on her progress with our community of support.

The love and encouragement shown by our community- near and far- is both comforting and energizing! We wish to express our sincere gratitude for the wonderful cards, messages, meals and packages that have been sent our way. The ongoing fundraising efforts outside of Maeve’s GoFundMe Campaign happening across Canada are deeply humbling and so incredibly helpful. Ian and I know firsthand how hard you are all working on these events and wish to thank every ‘hand on deck’ who has helped with the dinners, day fundraisers, dance classes, virtual events and beyond. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for going out of your way to show love and support for our daughter and our Family.

A lot of people ask us if we need anything. Right now, we ask please for prayers and positive thoughts for continued strength and healing. We remain steadfast in our faith and trust that God is working with Maeve, her medical team and keeping our family strong so that we can continue to focus on our extraordinary daughter and take things ‘one day at a time’.

Thank you everyone for continuing to respect our privacy during this time.

With love,

Gloria and Ian Field, Proud Parents of our Warrior Queen, Maeve Elizabeth. a.k.a. "Mighty Maeve".
